Understanding the secret of plants means understanding their leaves.

Through its leaves, the plant engages in an intense and continuous exchange with its environment. It senses the sun, orients its leaves toward the light, and, with the help of light, converts carbon dioxide and water into nutrients and oxygen.

No other living organism produces such diverse, complex, and unique forms as the plant. Leaves can be round, elliptical, egg-shaped, or lanceolate. They can be shield-shaped, heart-shaped, kidney-shaped, or they can be compound or pinnate; they are pointed, blunt, rounded, or notched; serrated, toothed, or indented, etc. –

These are categories of botany that can be expanded with your own terms and descriptions.

EXERCISE

Slow down. Observe the leaves of various plants around you.
What shapes do they have?
What do the leaf margins look like?
How are they arranged on the stem?
What color are they?
What surface texture do you notice?

Write down your observations and sketch the leaf shapes.

Comprendre le secret des plantes, c'est comprendre leurs feuilles.

Grâce à ses feuilles, la plante entretient un échange intense et continu avec son environnement. Elle perçoit le soleil, oriente ses feuilles vers la lumière et, à l'aide de celle-ci, transforme le dioxyde de carbone et l'eau en nutriments et en oxygène.

Aucun autre être vivant ne produit des formes aussi variées, complexes et exclusives que la plante. Les feuilles peuvent être arrondies, elliptiques, ovales ou lancéolées. Elles peuvent être en forme de bouclier, de cœur, de rein, ou bien composées ou pennées ; elles sont pointues, obtuses, arrondies ou émarginées, dentelées, crénelées ou entaillées, etc. –

Ce sont là des catégories botaniques qui peuvent être enrichies de termes et de désignations propres.

EXERCICE

Ralentis le rythme. Observe les feuilles des différentes plantes qui t’entourent.
Quelle est leur forme ?
Comment sont dessinés les bords des feuilles ?
Comment sont-elles disposées les unes par rapport aux autres sur la tige ?
De quelle couleur sont-elles ?
Quelle texture de surface remarques-tu ?

Note tes observations et dessine les formes des feuilles.
